Thunder adds Goaltender, Fraternal Scoring Duo

Wichita, KS- The Wichita Thunder today announced the signings of goaltender Adam Russo, as well as forwards Colin and Brett Hemingway.

Russo went 15-13-0 with the Quad City Mallards last season, including one shutout, a 2.88 goals against average and a .919 save percentage.  He had even more impressive numbers two seasons ago, going 23-14-3 with a 2.81 goals against average, playing for the IHL’s Port Huron Icehawks, where he was a teammate of Thunder team captain Daniel Tetrault.

Russo began his pro career in 2004 and has played the majority of the time in Italy, prior to returning to North America in 2009.  The Thunder acquired Russo last month from Quad City in exchange for future considerations.  He will attend training camp with the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs prior to joining the Thunder.

Brothers Colin and Brett Hemingway join the Thunder after spending last season overseas in the EIHL, playing for the Belfast Giants.  Colin turned pro in 2003 with the AHL’s Worcester IceCats following an impressive four-year career at the University of New Hampshire where he amassed 67 goals and 147 points in just 67 games.  His best season came during his junior year, when he notched 33 goals and 66 points in just 40 games.

Colin was drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the 8th round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft (221 overall) and played three games for the Blues during the 2005-06 season.  With Belfast last year he compiled 15 goals and 36 points in 35 games.  Over his seven-year pro career he has notched 156 goals and 352 points in 382 games.

Brett was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the 7th round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft (225 overall), also following a stellar career at the University of New Hampshire.  He turned pro in 2006 with the AHL’s Albany River Rats and has spent most of his career playing in the ECHL.

Last season with Belfast Brett notched 55 points in 56 games and led the team with 30 goals.  Over his five-year pro career he has compiled 69 goals and 169 points in 220 games.

The signings of Russo and the Hemingways now bring the Thunder roster to eight players for the upcoming season.  The Thunder will begin play in their 20th season in the CHL starting this October.  For season ticket information call the Thunder office at (316) 264-GOAL or visit us online at
