Thunder re-signs Greene

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder announced today that forward Chris Greene has re-signed with the club for the 2008-09 season and also added defensemen Keith Detlefsen and Cam Chalmers.

Greene was traded to the Thunder last season from the Arizona Sundogs and quickly became a fan favorite due to his quick skating and hard-hitting.  Unfortunately, Greene suffered a broken hand in his seventh Thunder game and missed 16 games.

“We are thrilled to have Chris back for a second season”, said Thunder general manager Joel T. Lomurno.  “Chris gives 110% every shift and embodies everything that we are looking for on our team this season.”

In 51 games between Arizona and Wichita, Greene chipped in 29 points.  The previous season, he notched 25 points and 182 penalty minutes.  A fourth-year pro out of Massena, New York, Greene has compiled 59 points in 123 pro games.

Detlefsen, a third-year pro out of Lakeville, Minnesota, joins the Thunder following an injury shortened season in which he had five points in 19 games.  Prior to turning pro, he played four seasons at Gustavus Adolphus College, notching 101 points in 84 games.  Detlefsen also spent the 2006-07 season with the Amarillo Gorillas, picking up 18 points in 41 games.

Chalmers joins the Thunder after a successful season with the MJHL’s Waywayseecappo Wolverines, where the 6-0, 215-pound defenseman notched career-highs for goals (11), assists (27), points (38) and penalty minutes (128) in 55 games.  The Thunder now has 15 players signed for the upcoming season and with the expected signing of Jason Duda still has three veteran spots to fill.

Wichita will host the Tulsa Oilers on Wednesday, October 8th at 7:05 p.m. at the Wichita Ice Center.  All seats for the game will be general admission and will cost $10 each.  Tickets for the game will go on sale on Monday, September 22nd.  The Thunder will also play a pair of exhibition games at the defending CHL Champion Arizona Sundogs on Friday and Saturday, October 10th and 11th.  CHL training camp will open on Monday, October 6th.

The Thunder will open their 17th CHL season on Friday, October 17th at the Mississippi RiverKings and then host the Oklahoma City Blazers on Saturday, October 18th at the Kansas Coliseum.  For more information or to order season tickets, please call the Thunder office at (316) 264-GOAL or visit our website at www.wichitathunder.com
