Thunder Comeback Falls Short

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder fell 4-2 to the Arizona Sundogs on Tuesday night at the Kansas Coliseum.The Thunder turned a 3-0 deficit into a one-goal game, before Arizona's Karl Sellan scored on an empty net with 26 seconds left to seal the win for Arizona.With an extra attacker in the closing minute, Wichita had a puck hit the left post before Arizona was able to clear the zone.  Troy Ofukany scored the Thunder's first goal, deflecting a shot from Bryan Nathe into the net on the power play at 14:22 in the second period.Joel Hanson cut the lead to 3-2 with another power play goal at 12:46 in the third.  Ofukany and Andrew Davis picked up assists.Tim Boron took the loss, saving nine of 12 before being lifted midway through the second period in favor of Krister Toews.  Toews saved all 11 shots he faced.By playing in Tuesday's game, Jason Duda passed Joe Burton for second place on the CHL's all-time games played ... Tessier Wins Performance of the Week

WICHITA, KS- Thunder defenseman Jason Tessier's hat trick against Tulsa on December 26th has been voted the CHL's Performance of the Week for December 22nd-28th.Tessier collected two power play goals in the second period, leading Wichita to a 6-3 win over the Oilers at the BOK Center.  Leading 5-3 late in the third, Tessier shot from behind his own blue line into an empty net to finish off the first hat trick of his career.The veteran has six goals and 11 assists in 31 games played this ... The Wichita Thunder took four points last week, winning two of three games at the Kansas Coliseum.  Wichita defeated the Tulsa Oilers 5-2 on Wednesday night, marking the third consecutive game that the Thunder scored five-plus goals.  Three different players had multiple points.  Brad Thompson scored twice and added an assist, Jason Duda scored a goal and three assists, and Joel Hanson picked up a goal and an assist.  Wichita held Tulsa to 18 shots on goal, the fewest shots ... Trade completed; Byrnes dealt

The Thunder has lost centerman Matt Byrnes in the completion of the trade for defenseman Jason Tessier.The Thunder acquired Tessier from Amarillo for future considerations in the preseason. Amarillo traded those futures to Texas. As part of the agreement, the Thunder was allowed to protect an undisclosed number of players on the active roster.
